Pears poached in gin with saffron, honey and rose 10/9/2007 Peta Mathias Your Rating: Ratings: No ratings yet Make a Comment Add to Favourites 0 Serves 4 Print Ingredients 4 Pears, not too ripe 2 cups Water ¼ cup Gin 2 tbsp Honey 2 tsp Saffron, use 2 tsp of saffron extract or 1/2 tsp saffron thread 4 Dried rose buds + Add to shopping list Directions Peel the pears, leaving the stalks on. Slice a little off the base of each so they sit flat. Combine the other ingredients in a heavy based saucepan, bring to a simmer then add the pears. Simmer for 40 minutes, turning every 10 minutes while spooning the poaching liquid over the fruit. Allow the fruit to cool in the liquid. Serve with cream or creme fraiche.
